12-20 is the age when a young girl turns into a woman. It is at that time she realizes her strengths and weaknesses, her qualities and her characteristics. At this age, it becomes extremely important for her to get the right role models, right values and the right nutrients so that she can lead an independent life and be a responsible citizen.
Iron stands for toughness and strength. #MADEOFIRON is a call for all women to embrace their inner strengths.
While women are stereotypically to be considered weak, we can break this barrier at a young age to help her realize that she is not less than anyone and can achieve whatever she wants to, because she is made of iron.
Anaemia is a condition in which a person has an insufficient number of red blood cells or quantity of haemoglobin, which reduces the capacity of their blood to carry oxygen. Normal haemoglobin for women is 12 gram per decilitre (g/dlL) and men 13 g/dL. If the normal haemoglobin level is below 10 g/dL, a woman is considered to be anaemic.
Anaemia is widespread in India--58.6% of children, 53.2% of non-pregnant women and 50.4% of pregnant women were found to be anaemic in 2016, as per the NFHS. Studies showed that prevalence of Anaemia is up in early adolescents from 50-90%.
With #MADEOFIRON, we want to raise awareness amongst the young girls as intervention is required at a young age.
