Practicing Sustainability – The Priority for the Pharma Industry Today

In an interview with Pharma Bio World, Biswajit Mitra, Chief Mentoring Officer, Cadila Pharmaceuticals, talks about how the impact of industrial expansion leads the industry to transform towards Sustainability and Circular Economy, from traditional linear approach. “Packaging remains an important factor in the pharmaceutical industry. In a sustainability strategy, it’s important to remember that any packaging which falls short of serving its purpose is never sustainable – no matter the material reduction, recyclability, or use of recycled materials.

Although the high efficacy, sterility, and safety standards of the pharmaceutical and medical device industries provide some barriers to traditional avenues of material savings, the requirement for change in production facilities is immense. Anything contradicting the sustainability objectives needs to be done away with. This also means that huge opportunities are being opened up for innovation.”
