Cadila Pharmaceuticals

For decades, Cadila Pharma has built a Legacy of Care centred on safeguarding human health. We believe this duty of care does not end with the patients we serve; it extends to the planet we all share. For us, a healthy environment with clean air, pure water, and a stable climate is the very foundation of human well-being.

We are treating our environmental footprint with the same rigour and precision we apply to our pharmaceutical products, ensuring our legacy is one of healing, not harm, for generations to come. We focus on resource efficiency, pollution prevention, energy conservation, water recycling, and waste reduction.

Climate Change

Waste Footprint

Water Footprint

We are steadfast in our commitment to tackling climate change, a critical global health and environmental issue. As responsible pharmaceutical producers, we understand the importance of reducing our ecological footprint. By implementing proactive energy management and lowering GHG emissions, we seek to enhance climate resilience and foster healthier communities.

Our emissions profile

Our emissions profile

We proactively oversee our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as part of our commitment to climate stewardship. By tracking and reporting GHG emissions throughout our value chain, we enable informed decision-making and implement specific measures to reduce our environmental impact.

Air pollution

Air pollution

We continuously monitor and control our air emissions, focusing on Sulphur Oxides (SOx), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), and Particulate Matter (PM). Committed to ongoing improvement, we invest in process upgrades and optimisations to lower emissions and consistently adhere to the strictest regulatory standards.

Energy management

Energy management

Our energy management strategy follows a three-step approach: Measure where we have instituted rigorous mechanisms to measure our energy consumption and its associated environmental impact. With Reduce, we continue to implement energy efficiency measures across our operations. Additionally, we are speeding up our decarbonization transition with low-carbon energy sources. A key milestone in this plan is the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to obtain 1.8 MW of renewable electricity for our Ankleshwar facility. We also have a PPA in place for our Dholka facility, where we are sourcing hybrid energy.

We recognise that waste generated during pharmaceutical manufacturing can result in the loss of valuable resources and elevate environmental impact. To tackle this, we have adopted a comprehensive waste management strategy that emphasises minimising waste at source, recovering materials, and maximising recycling.

At the Dholka plant, we have eliminated paper use by implementing EPIQ software for QA documentation.

Additionally, as part of our initiative to combat plastic pollution, we take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of our products. We collaborate with authorised third-party waste handlers to collect and process post-consumer plastics, adhering to all government guidelines for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

Our strategy emphasises process optimisation, solvent recovery, and material reuse. We continuously refine our chemical processes to decrease by-products and improve solvent recovery systems. Through targeted recycling and reuse initiatives, we divert waste from landfills.

We depend significantly on water for our operations and understand the risks water scarcity presents to our business and patient care. We are dedicated to responsible water management by lowering usage, enhancing efficiency, and safeguarding natural water sources. Our strategy emphasises sustainable water use to ensure operational stability and bolster community resilience.

Sustainable water management

Sustainable water management

Water efficiency is central to our operations. We track our water consumption each month with calibrated flow meters and constantly improve our systems to lessen freshwater reliance.

Water recycling and conservation

Water recycling and conservation

We actively lower our water footprint by recycling and reusing water. At Dahej, we reduced surface water extraction by implementing advanced Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems. Additionally, we recycle treated wastewater via Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPS) for non-potable reuse in various processes.

Our sustainability highlights

We accelerated its sustainability journey by:

Scaling up renewable energy usage across facilities

Advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across the workforce

Deepening social impact programs for healthcare access and community development

Strengthening disclosure practices in line with global ESG benchmarks

To promote global relevance, comparability, and transparency, our report has been developed using frameworks and standards.
