Casil Health Products Ltd. (CHPL)

Set up in 1988 as a joint stock public Ltd company, Casil Health Products Ltd was deemed to be a major player in the allied hospital supplies business. CHPL was promoted as a public venture by the directors of the blue chip Indian Pharma giant Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The focus of the venture was on key allied segments such as Surgical, Orthopaedic, Wound care, Disinfection, Critical Care, Diagnostic and patient care systems. The company now has five major divisions:

Hospicon :
The wide range covers Orthoset, a leading Plaster of Paris bandage; Duralite, a fibre glass-based synthetic cast bandage; Glotex examination gloves and Surgitex surgical gloves, both made of high-grade double-centrifuged latex; Opstic adhesive tapes, Dermapore hypoallergic tapes, Dermasilk wound dressing and Castinet gauze bandages. Other speciality products include Cadi-V infusion sets and Bioflon I.V. Cannula; and Softcrepe and cotton crepe bandages. Besides these, the company has entered into an agreement to launch modern wound care products, including Hydrogel. Several of these plants have the approval of Statutory bodies, including the prestigious DGQA, and have been awarded ISO 9002 Certification.


Diacon:
Casil is the sole distributor for PanBio Australia’s dengue detection kits, the only product of its kind in the country. After the success of Accutest HCG and Accuplan, pregnancy and ovulation tests, respectively; CHPL is about to launch dry chemistry rapid test kits for hepatitis, malaria and other infectious diseases. These revolutionary kits will greatly reduce the time taken for diagnosis.

Kemicon:
Casil ventured into specialty chemicals in the late nineties and is, today, the leading supplier of Sulfolane (Tetramethylene Sulfone) for all refineries in India. Newer applications are constantly developed to expand the market for the product, which is now widely used in the synthesis of Cephalosporins. Sulfolane is also exported to other countries.

Sofgel:
Casil set up its Soft Gelatin Capsule manufacturing plant mainly to cater to the dietary supplements market, including vitamins, minerals and hematinics. This ISO 9002 approved plant has been conferred with the Quality Award by the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association and also carries WHO GMP certification by the Government of India. Casil products have been approved by other pharmaceutical organizations and are exported to the SAARC, Far-East and African markets. The company is in the process of expanding its capacities to double the production.

Veterinary – Extending care towards animals:
Most of India still lives in her villages. The main source of income in the villages is livestock and poultry, even today. Consequently, animal health is vital for a rural economy.
